American scholars analyzed the data of 83076 women (with an average age of 56 years) in the nurse health study. The results showed that from 1980 to 2004, there were 2280 cases of stroke. After adjusting for several stroke risk factors, the researchers found that drinking caffeinated coffee was significantly negatively associated with stroke risk.
Compared with those who drank less than 1 cup per month, those who drank 2 to 3 cups of coffee per day had a 19% lower risk of stroke, and those who drank 4 cups of coffee ≥ reduced their risk of stroke by 20%. This article is published in the journal Circulation 2009119 (7): 1116.
