Front Street-Nicaraguan Kung Fu Manor washing Malakadura
Coffee is a major export crop for poor Nicaragua. Hurricane Mitch in October 1998 lost 30 per cent of coffee crops, 20 per cent of which, in addition to direct damage, was caused by blocked roads.
Most of Nicaragua's washed Arabica coffee grows in fertile volcanic ash soil. Generally speaking, Matagalpa and the town of West Tattega in Linjin are the best coffee, both of which are SHG grade. They are famous for their large beans, slightly salty acidity and good aroma, and middle and upper-class mellowness. Nicaragua also has Marago Rippi coffee "MARAGOGYPE", but it is not as popular as Guatemala's. But it's the largest coffee bean in the world.
