This story.
Kotowa is one of several farms owned by the Koyner/Duncan family in Boquete, Panama. In the early 20th century, the Koyner/Duncan family moved to Panama from Canada and established one of the country's first coffee processing plants, which are actually still in operation today.
Kotowa is the native Hindi word for "mountain", and the coffee here grows on the slope of Mount Baru between the Pacific Ocean and continental divide mountains. This location creates a microclimate, cool temperature and optimal rainfall and sunshine. Coffee ripens slowly and cherries are high in sugar.
Kotowa provides health care for workers, nurseries for workers' children, meals and school programs. These social projects have been recognized by the United Nations Children's Fund on many occasions.
