Proagro Cooperative
The cooperative is located in the Calanabi Valley in the State of La Paz, Bolivia. Founded in 1997, the cooperative has more than 300 members/families from 10 rural communities in the Kalanawi region. Union Pro-Agro also has a social mission to help producers develop by providing assistance to grass-roots projects in the areas of health, education and road infrastructure. At present, cooperatives have assisted the Bolivian Ministry of the Interior in registering women farmers, wives and widows in order to obtain land titles in their own names. Previously, women were rarely considered landowners in Bolivia and had no legal recognition or right to own their own farms and families.
