Caffeine will increase the loss of calcium in the intestines and urine. Under normal circumstances, the human body will compensatively increase the amount of calcium absorbed by the intestines, but this compensatory effect will decrease with age. If middle-aged people can maintain an adequate daily intake of calcium (at least 800 mg) from their diet (see attached table), moderate enjoyment of coffee will not increase the risk of fracture due to calcium loss.
