Salvador (São Salvador da Baía de Todos Santos, meaning "San Salvador by the Bay of All Saints") is a coastal city in northeastern Brazil, the capital of the state of Bahia. El Salvador was for a long time referred to directly as Bahia, and it was identified as Bahia in many books and maps before the mid-20th century (for example, in Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe). Today many locals still refer to Bahia as El Salvador, while many others in Brazil refer to the state as Bahia. The climate belongs to tropical rain forest climate, there is no particularly dry time.
